Nikki Borodi expresses a bold, humanist vision of the world through her unmistakable voice as both a performer and visual artist. As fixture in the East Village music scene for over eight years, Nikki has successfully made her way from being known as a local singer-songwriter to music producer, clown, aerialist, body artist, and high-end crochet designer for both humans and dogs.
As a musician, Nikki is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and vocalist. In addition to playing shows with her own band, she has performed at Madison Square Garden, with Morcheeba at Roseland, and is featured on Yoko Ono’s “Blueprints for a Sunrise”. This afro-diva recently released her first self-produced album, “Chakra Rock” a rock-electronica record that takes listeners on a journey through the eastern chakra system. Bursting at the seams with soaring vocals and chock-full of vibrant poetry, Chakra Rock is a blend of funk, spoken-word, trip-hop and rock.
As a professional clown Borodi has tickled the hearts of countless children and adults, incorporating magic, face/body painting and music into her seamless performances. Fully committed to this art, she has trained internationally, most recently with Sue Morrison at Center of Gravity Circus in Toronto. It was in Toronto where she was introduced to the aerial arts, and has since been honing her skills as a flying acrobat at the Sky Box in Brooklyn, NY.
Nikki’s experience as a clown, musician and performing artist is synthesized in her work in the circus arts. Flying through the air on aerial silks, she is currently at work creating “Circus Rock”. The production will include Nikki’s original music in a multimedia extravaganza featuring performances by professional aerial acrobats and musicians.
A spirited powerhouse, Nikki offers as much joy and love to people as visual artist as she does when performing. Her favorite canvas is the human body. Nikki has created full-body paintings that transform subjects into different animals, creatures and landscapes. She also has worked extensively as a henna tattoo artist bejeweling clients at bridal showers, private parties, and corporate events.
A gifted crochet artist, she began “Frowear”, a line of croched accessories which has since been expanded into “Woofwearz”, a clothing line for dogs featuring custom-made sweaters. Nikki’s latest line boasts a wide variety of designs utilizing renewable resources including soy-silks and bamboo fibers.
